An audit of New Zealand's Blood Service has revealed that it is operating at a very high level.

Auditor-general Lyn Provost says that the service is 'a high performing organisation and we have no improvements to recommend'.

Key factors that play a role in New Zealand's successful blood service included the generosity of volunteer blood donors – allowing for a self-sufficient service – and the safety of the service. Provost noted that the Blood Service takes scrutiny seriously and carefully considers all recommendations.
