Flesh-eating disease turns up in Manawatu

Necrotising fasciitis, the bacterial disease that results in the destruction of soft tissue (otherwise known as flesh-eating disease) has been diagnosed in a Manawatu patient.

Rates of necrotising fasciitis has risen between the years 1990 and 2006. During this time, 812 cases of the disease were diagnosed – 148 of those diagnosed died of the disease.
