New whooping cough strain in Australia

A study of the whooping cough epidemic in Australia has identified a new strain or genotype that evades the vaccine.

The genotype (called prn2-ptxPr), which descends from the Bordetella pertussis bacterium may be vaccine-evasive, has likely caused the increase in incidences of whooping cough in Australia.
